Hello,
everyone! We are BarcelonaSensing, our team is a multidisciplinary team
formed by students of biomedical engineering and biomedical sciences
from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), University of
Barcelona (UB) and the University of Vic - Central University of
Catalonia (UVic-UCC). The team is led by Dr.Jasmina Casals and Dr.Jordi
Colomer.
Valproate is an anti-convulsive drug that presents a great variability in plasma concentration compared to the administered dose. A higher dose of the therapeutic window may present high liver toxicity. Therefore, it is very important to control the concentration of the drug in patients. However, the current methods of determining Valproate, requires patients to travel to the hospital and that this determination is done with advanced techniques. This can lead to patients discontinuing treatment and to a great waste of resources.
The development of a point-of-care device could make life easier for patients and save money for hospitals. This translates into a great business opportunity.
Our group, despite of the current difficulties, is very motivated and willing to work hard. Go BarcelonaSensing!
